English Dub Review: Dragonball Super “Pan is Born! and Goku goes on a Training Journey”

Goku gets to be the Kool-Aid man in this episode… Minus the Kool-Aid.

Spoilers Below

The episode begins six months later at Gohan & Videl’s house with Hercule and later Gohan entertaining the new child Pan. The two start tossing Pan in the air while she’s enjoying herself. Of course, it comes to a halt once Chi-Chi visits and is understandably pissed that her granddaughter was being tossed in the air. Not to mention both Gohan & Hercule are ok with the idea of Pan growing up to be a martial artist. However, Chi-Chi is disgusted at this and wants her to grow up to be a proper lady. We cut to Krillin who’s now a cop and after stopping some bank robbers thanks to Bulma’s help, Krillin suddenly gets a phone call which leads to the next scene as it’s revealed that Chi-Chi locked the men out of the room from Pan since she can’t trust her safety to them.

Chi-Chi then tells Videl that whatever decision she makes on raising Pan she’s will be on her side and Bulma comes in to talk things out in regards to Chi-Chi’s irrational behavior. Videl expresses that she wants her child to grow up however she wants which Bulma agrees and strangely enough, Bulma gets into a conversation with Chi-Chi like she doesn’t know what it’s like to be married to a Saiyan which is ironic given that Chi-Chi was married longer than her and in Mid-conversation, Bulma lets it slip that Vegeta is on the other side of the universe training with Whis which Goku overhears and leads to the funniest scene in this episode. Goku in excitement crashes through the wall like he’s the fucking Kool-Aid man and it’s glorious!

Afterward, Goku repairs the wall and asks if Whis will return at some point. Given that Goku is unable to find Beerus’ planet with his instant transmission technique. Whis is the only way he can get there and back which leads to a comical montage where Goku incessantly visits Bulma to find out if Whis has visited. Bulma becomes annoyed to the point that she gives Goku a smart phone so she can ring him when Whis comes by. Once Whis shows up, Bulma calls Goku, and Goku shows up asking to become his pupil. Whis at first says no, but doesn’t stop Goku as he grabs Whis’ hips seconds before he teleports and Chi-Chi fails to stop Goku as he disappears with Whis. The episode comically ends with Chi-Chi quickly getting over her intense anger, knowing that Goku will return once he gets hungry anyway.

Our Take.

This was easily one of the funnier episodes and actually, explains how Goku also received training from Whis. I’m surprised he didn’t do much impress him with any kind of foods like Vegeta did or that Whis tried to stop Goku seconds before he grabbed him but now that we got our answers in regards to Goku & Vegeta’s training, we’re about to begin DB Super’s adaptation of most recent anime film that Akira Toriyama was involved with, Resurrection F!
