English Dub Review: Chaos;Child “Takuru Miyashiro”

We’re near the end folks!

The episode begins with a small montage during the 2nd “Restoration Festival” intercut with Takuru hiding out with Serika who reveals her wound to him while festival goers plan to wait or possibly apprehend Takuru after Dr. Sakuma’s false news report from the last episode. The rest of the episode is mostly spent on scenes of Serika talking to Takuru explaining that the cause of the earthquake years ago was due to something called the “Theater Cube” which is located at the planetarium in Shibuya Square where she intends to confront Dr. Sakuma and leaves, telling Takuru that her primary goal is protecting him knowing that Takuru would be in greater danger if he goes directly.

However, long after she leaves, Serika calls Takuru and straight-up admits that she murdered his parents during the earthquake. Much to his shock & horror, Takuru realizes that Serika most likely had ulterior motives, and decides to go confront her despite Hinae suggesting him not to. While Mio takes her friends to hide within the shopping district of Akihabara, Takukru heads to the Theater Cube after Serika.

After getting his proper send-off and a ride from Shindou to the festival, Takuru infiltrates the party using a large “Sumo-Sticker” mask but starts to have flashbacks to the simpler times before the shocking events that have transpired in the previous episodes. As Takuru enters the Theater Cube, he encounters Serika who irrationally starts attacking him, forcing Takuru to fight back in self-defense and starts to strangle her to death. However, the battle is revealed to have been one of Dr. Sakuma’s psychic mindfuck’s and reveals that he has an artificial Di-sword using a device strapped to his body. Much like a Bond villain, Dr. Sakuma explains with an over the top gleeful sadism that Serika is not only dead by his hands but that he also orchestrated the “New-Gen” murders purely for fun, and is only interested in further continuing his research on Gigalomaniacs.

Disgusted by Sakuma’s big supervillain reveal, Takuru unleashes his own Di-sword, damaging Sakuma’s Di-Sword device during their battle. However when Sakuma has one more trick up his sleeve and attempts to mess with Takuru again by psychically overloading him with tragic memories in an effort to break his mind permanently. And the episode ends in cliffhanger fashion as Sakuma declares a premature victory before it cuts to black.

Our Take.

Assuming that Takuru survives the next episode, Takuru now has to figure out what Serika’s primary goal was because if it’s not protecting him, What did he really wish for when he manifested her as a real person? Hopefully, the next episode will give us those answers as this show nears its conclusion. C’mon Chaos;Child. Let’s do this!
