English Dub Review: Akiba’s Trip “Electric Mayo’s Falling Apart!”

One more episode left…

The episode begins when we learn that the Prime Minister who established the “Akiba Ban” in Episode 11 was working with Metrotica the entire time and has accepted a bribe on the condition that she does as she is told and only after Metrotica and the reporter leave.

Things look decidedly bleak for the members of “Electric Mayonaise”. Tamotsu is now powerless after being kissed by Mayonaka’s twin sister who’s name is “Urame” and to make things worse, Arisa has been called back to the US to help a diamond CEO due to a “sickness” leaving Mayonaka the only one to combat the “bugged ones” solo. Mayonaka even says no to restoring Tomatsu’s powers despite knowing she can which forcibly makes this episode longer than it needs to be.

As the group falls apart, the “Akiba ban” from Episode 11 goes into effect with political debates about the unfairness of this law to even scenes of cops clearing out otaku merchandise all over town and setting it ablaze which makes the reporter who helped Metrotica earlier realize she’s gone too far.

After Tomatsu & Nikawa go home, Mayonaka struggles to take the fight against the “bugged ones” solo, and gets into an intense duel with Urame who reveals that Metrotica is their Grandmother and her reason for driving humans out is because Akihabara was once the “bugged ones” sacred land for thousands of years but Mayonaka believes it’s not their land anymore.

While Tamotsu begins to sulk & question his usefulness, Nikawa motivates him to not let Mayonaka do this alone with or without powers but it isn’t until he see’s Mayonaka in the background during a news broadcast mid-battle with Urame that snaps him out of his self-pity.

Eventually, Tomatsu returns to save Mayonaka and she explains that she feared for his safety due to her grandmother being a large-scale threat which is why she said no towards restoring his powers but Tomatsu doesn’t care and kisses her getting his powers back and effortlessly defeats Urame.

Arisa conveniently returns explaining that the CEO’s pet panda was just sick so she cured it with “Chinese medicine” So now with “Electric Mayonaise” reassembled, all that’s left now is them vs the “Akiba Ban” and Metrotica but who will win?

Our Take.

The whole episode tries its damnedest to make us sad but all I feel is indifference. I kinda predicted that the main antagonist from episode 2 was related to Mayonaka in some way but I’m hoping the final episode will answer several more questions because while we know Metrotica is both Mayonaka’s & Urame’s Grandmother, what happened to their parents?
