DreamWorks Dragons Second Season Flies High This Fall on Cartoon Network
Yep, it begins.
We recently put out a press release detailing our additional coverage of animated comedy which now includes the ‘Prime Access’ slot of 7:30pm EST. Along with Regular Show, we will begin covering Dreamworks Dragons when it returns so check out a snippet from the press release below:
Based upon the Academy Award®-nominated film, How To Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks Dragons is back for its second season of epic adventures and high-flying hijinks on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. In the new season, DreamWorks Dragons: Defenders of Berk Hiccup (Jay Baruchel, This Is The End) and his dragon Toothless lead the way as the gang graduates from experienced riders to confident defenders. The group will face a surprising enemy, rare and wild dragons and exciting adventures.
As an unforeseen villain emerges, the trainers must develop their skills and defend the Viking Island of Berk. The kids take it upon themselves to protect Berk and form a secret “Dragons Flight Club” to battle old foes with new dragon knowledge and flying skills. Hiccup tries his hand as an inventor, while Fishlegs (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Superbad) becomes the most popular man in town. The group also learns the important lesson of not taking your dragon for granted.
There you have it folks, Sept. 19th at 7:30pm EST, its Dreamworks Dragons on Cartoon Network.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
