Spoilers Below

My So-Called Life as a Horse

Tina tells the story of when she turns into Tinasus, one of five ‘Equestranauts’ sent to fight crime. The team of horses destroy Xander leading Tinasus to return to school.

Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities

Louise tells us the story of how she stopped a camera guy at school from taking her picture. Had she had her pic taken, Louise would’ve been turned into a zombie, but she’s able to put a stop before any harm is done.

The Boy in the Burger the Musical

Gene sings a song, but eventually he becomes fused with his trademark burger suit. At first he hates it, but his siblings make use of his new wide body just in time for some sledding!

This is an interesting way to kick off Bob’s Burgers comics as the series launches with stories coming from the kids. While the idea is novel, I’m not sure it’s executed very well. For starters, the first short seemed to miss the mark with the dialogue from the kids. As a matter of fact, Gene and Louise sounded more like a Bart and Lisa than anyone related to Bob’s Burgers. Louise’s mysteries was a little better, but was rather short and seemed uninspired. Finally, Gene stars in his own short with the musical, and as such pretty much rescued the entire issue. The script seemed to nail Gene, but overall this issue featured really no mention of Bob or Linda. Seriously, there was maybe a cameo from the parents, and everyone knows that Bob’s Burgers works best when it’s the entire family in it for the win. Hopefully, the comic will try and establish this in the next few issues and something good can happen here, because this first issue shouldn’t be seen as a great alternative for the show.
