Four different adventures.

Overview (Spoilers Below:)

“B-Max” by Annosha Syed focuses on BMO. BMO is concerned that they’re too cute to bring on life or death adventures, so they ask Bubblegum for an upgrade. Bubblegum makes BMO a mecha, equipped with fancy new features and full-scale combat abilities. BMO joins Finn and Jake in fighting a monster, but what secures the heroes victory isn’t BMO’s new combat skills, but their cuteness. Shout-outs to Big Hero 6 and fighting games don’t go unnoticed.

Second is the “The Thumb-derdome”, by Marie Enger. It’s a parody of Mad Max, but instead of the fight-to-the-death Thunderdome, the participants all engage in an intense thumb wrestling match in the Thumb-derdome. The feared champion isn’t a goblin, but BMO, who is adorned with metal horns. BMO ends up being the reigning champion simply because they don’t have any thumbs. It’s impossible to win against someone that doesn’t have the appendages in the first place. Altogether, a fun parody of Thunderdome in Adventure Time style.

“Crab Attack,” by Jenna Ayoub, is a one-page story about the heroes fighting a giant crab to get to Bubblegum. As it turns out, they’re all at the beach, and they’re having fun with their imagination. Short but sweet.

Last up is “Mightier Than The Fist” by Ben Passmore, which is a wuxia parody, where Finn and Jake fight off a ninja master to recover Jake’s body. They go on a perilous journey, where they learn from an esteemed teacher, and hone themselves in the way of martial arts. In the end, it isn’t Finn’s newly mastered fighting skills that defeat Ninja Pete, but Jake’s monologuing.

Our Take

While the segments don’t mesh together very well, they’re all lighthearted and fun. A good number of them are parodies, but they all build off the source material quite well. Each segment is highly enjoyable and leaves the reader feeling good. A nice read if you want to have some fun.
