Comics Review: Adventure Time #72

Overview:

Finn and Jake listen to the apprentice’s story, and how her clones spiraled out of control. When Jake goes to the Candy Kingdom to check things out, he’s greeted by a big surprise.

Our Take:

We see from the apprentice that wishes are made with the witch not out of desperation, but a mere annoyance. Their problems aren’t so great that they can’t be solved without magic, but they didn’t want to put in an effort. The witch offers an easy way out– there is a fine print to the contract that they didn’t bother to read. Finn and Jake just wanted to have fun and not be heroes for a bit, and the apprentice didn’t want constant comparisons to her family. Clones are simply a quick fix to a situation that could have been solved with some communication.

In that sense, the clones aren’t evil at all. As the apprentice said, they try their best to be good even with destructive results. In fact, the citizens of the Candy Kingdom seem to be perfectly fine with numerous clones running around because they’re helping out. They’ve managed to duplicate themselves enough to form an army, but since they’re wholly committed to doing good things, they’re being better heroes to the Kingdom than the originals. In other words, their own negligence leads to them being replaced.

Somehow they’re going to end up running amok, and the two heroes will have to take them out, but this was an interesting twist. The clones are amplified good, so they’re a welcome presence, and even when they start ballooning out of control, they’re still seen as a positive. Somehow that will change by the next and final installment, but hopefully, it ends with Finn and Jake learning a lesson from it.
