Check Out This Spanish Horror Comedy that Just Won ‘Best Animated Film’

Pos eso 1

Spanish director Sam Ortí Martí’s Pos eso (“Possessed” in English) has won the main award for the best animated full-length film for adults at the Anifilm international festival. The movie is a claymation “horror comedy,” and if you’re thinking of flicks like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, you’re way off. A peek at the trailer below reveals a much darker, much gorier, and all-around more fucked-up film than one would normally imagine. Except, you know, funny.

The feature film debut of the director (who just goes by “Sam”) and a co-production between his Conflictivos Productions and Basque Films, Pos eso spins a yarn about a flamingo dancer and a bullfighter who give birth to a son, Damien, who seemingly becomes possessed by a demon.

Pos eso had a budget of €1.5 million and took four years to make. It opened theatrically last week in Spain and is now playing the international festival circuit. If you happen to be in France next month (because who won’t be, amiright?), check it out at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
