BubbleUK: “Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires” trailer released

When it comes to feature animation, Britain isn’t as active as it used it used to be, and the UK tends to stick to children’s TV or short films when it comes to cartoons. Sure, Aardman pops into the field now and again, but their efforts are rare, to say the least. So it’s refreshing to know that claymation filmmaker Mike Mort is planning to release a feature stop-motion comedy called “Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires” very soon.

Night of the Trampires centres on maverick cop Chuck Steel, who has to face the deadly threat known as the “Trampires”. A trailer for the feature has already been released, showing off a blend of schlock horror, eighties police movie cliches, and adult humour.

Chuck Steel himself first made his debut in the short film “Raging Balls of Steel Justice”, which had Steel confronting a horde of escaped convicts in a warehouse. I’ve seen Raging Balls, and have to say that it’s immensely fun! It’s a relentless barrage of inventive violence and tongue in cheek nods to eighties cop movies.

Based on Raging Balls alone, I can see promise in Mort’s feature film ambitions, and feel excited to see how he expands the premise into something bigger. Mort has already had plenty of experience in animation, having served as a director for such British stop-motion TV shows as “Gogs” and “Shaun the Sheep”. Watching the trailer for “Night of the Trampires”, you can really tell that someone experienced and skilled is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

If I was to best describe the style of Chuck Steel, it’s like a combination of three different recognisable titles in the same vein: The cocky but badass hero reminds me of Sterling Archer, the jabs at blockbuster film is reminiscent of Team America, and the over the top bloodbath gore makes me recall the [adult swim] series Superjail. So if you’re a fan of any of those products, I can imagine Chuck Steel being your cup of tea… a cup of tea that works alone and doesn’t play by the rules!
