Adult Swim were kinda dicks about Metalocalypse’s last days…

Kudos to MetalInsider.net writer Bram for asking really good questions.

Brendon Small recently did a tell all interview with MetalInsider.net and you can read the full thing here. However, this is what I got from the whole thing:

  1. A new Galaktikon record is on the way
  2. Metalocalypse isn’t coming back on Adult Swim, though I get the sense Brendon still wants to finish the story. My best guess is a revisit of the Metalocalypse comics, but that’s just conjecture. At the end of the day, Adult Swim owns the brand, and despite being offered $2 mil to finance the finale, it just didn’t happen.
  3. No Metalocalypse also means no new Dethklok music on the way, hence the number 1.
  4. That whole fax machine thing? That was the network just being a bunch of assholes. Kind of classless if you ask me.

I gotta tell you. I’ve interviewed just about every television producer that has had or has an animated series on Adult Swim, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Mike Lazzo with the exception of the recent cancellations. Aqua Teen and China IL aside, it was Adult Swim that decided to go a different route with The Jack and Triumph Show and now we’ve got left overs from this mess.

So there you have it kids. Wanna know why producers of various web properties are hesitant about giving up the rights to their creations? We’ve got a pretty good reason right here. Whether or not Brendon ever decides to get back into TV is anyone’s guess as it seems he’s been focused more on live entertainment like stand-up, sketch, and music versus the headaches that is the television business. It sucks because Small is just so fucking talented, but this whole deal with Metalocalypse may have just burned him out for now.
