Review: Helluva Boss “Return to Loo Loo Land/Yes/No”
I swear season three is doing everything it can to make Blitzo’s life even more miserable. This was evidenced at the end of the previous episode, when Stolas starts hanging out with Vassago, much to Blitzo’s humiliation and frustration. Unfortunately for him, the final two episodes of the season’s first part don’t hold back from further damaging his mental state. The first of the bunch, “Return to Loo Loo Land”, has Blitzo and Fizz take a trip to Loo Loo Land, an amusement park we saw in the second episode of season one. However, based on how that episode went, I feel like these two should’ve gone someplace else for their break. The reason is their latest encounter with Robo-Fizz, who goes on an imp rampage and is targeting Blitzo.
This led to Loona having another badass moment, long overdue after the first episode, before she gets stabbed by the crazy android from hell. Since this concludes the season’s first part, I’m glad Loona got another chance to shine on the battlefield after being sidelined for so long, even if it’s very brief. To make matters worse for Blitzo, the second episode, “Yes/No”, has him give his sister Barbie (Jinhee Joung) a job at I.M.P., which sadly ends with her betraying him. As for Stolas, his reunion with Vassago led to his reconciliation with Octavia as he taught her magic. At the very least, Stolas is well on his way to redeeming himself following his decision that left Octavia brokenhearted, though I wish I could say the same for Blitzo.
At this point, the events surrounding Blitzo in season three are basically karma for his arrogance and raunchy attitude. But with these two episodes, it’s understandable that we all wish he could go one day without something bad happening to him. This direction is starting to feel repetitive, and Barbie switching sides is a bridge too far. Fortunately, it compensates with another series of messed-up scenarios that are nicely animated and consistently amusing, with Stolas’s reconnection with Octavia as the emotional highlight. Beyond what’s happening with Blitzo, the third season of Helluva Boss has gotten off to another strong start in its characters and presentation. Here’s hoping the upcoming second part maintains this momentum and continues its hellish dominance.
