English Dub Review: Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc “Break Up”
Overview
Takemichi Hanagaki is a freelancer that’s reached the absolute pits of despair in his life. He finds out that the only girlfriend he ever had in his life that he dated in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, had been killed by the ruthless Tokyo Manji Gang. The day after hearing about her death, he’s standing on the station platform and ends up being pushed over onto the tracks by a herd of people. He closes his eyes thinking he’s about to die, but when he opens his eyes back up, he somehow had gone back in time 12 years. Now that he’s back living the best days of his life, Takemichi decides to get revenge on his life by saving his girlfriend and changing himself that he’d been running away from.
Our Take
Tokyo Revengers returns with Takemichi Hanagaki continuing his mission to change the future and protect the people he cares about. Following the devastating events of the Tenjiku arc, we are now at what is called the “War of the Three Titans Arc” (also known as the Three Deities Arc) As Takemichi, Mikey, Draken, and the rest of the Tokyo Manji Gang must confront the emotional consequences of their past battles while figuring out what comes next.
The premiere delivers a nostalgic and emotional comeback, supported by a strong opening theme from JO1 and a fitting ending song by go!go!vanillas. While the episode focuses more on character interactions than action, it provides a reflective transition into the next chapter. However, there’s some confusion surrounding the season numbering, as promotional material identifies it as Season 4 while Hulu lists it as Season 3, making the distinction unnecessarily inconsistent.
Overall, Tokyo Revengers makes a solid return with an engaging atmosphere, memorable music, and plenty of questions to keep viewers invested. Although the animation doesn’t show a significant improvement, Takemichi’s journey and the supporting cast remain the series’ biggest strengths. With more challenges seemingly on the horizon, this premiere offers a promising start to the next stage of the story.
