English Dub Review: The World’s Strongest Witch “I Tried Using the Internet!”

Overview:

Lorna goes on an adventure with her skill, the Internet, which grants her access to near-infinite knowledge.

Our Take(Spoilers):

The internet jokes alone feel like they could carry this show. From claiming that the internet never lies all the way to Lorna’s family name being Guugelheit, until she’s disowned at least. I don’t know what sort of fever dream led to a series like this being made, but I think I’m grateful. I was also glad that one thing got cleared up relatively early on in the episode. If you’ve ever played a JRPG or anything close to that genre, you’ve probably seen that the way they rank things is unique. Instead of stopping at A-rank, the best for them is usually S-rank. So when Lorna got shit for her triple S internet skill, I thought it was weird, but thanks to the internet, she found out that S was the best.

Lindsay Seidel voices Lorna, and she was the main voice we got to hear in this episode. I love Lindsay, but some characters she voices are better than others, so sometimes it can be a bit hit or miss. But Lorna is already a favorite of mine that she voices because this character’s reactions to the crazy things happening around her are hilarious.

The internet being the thing that makes her overpowered is honestly one of the funnier things I’ve seen in an anime. She’s able to access maps, which is how she gets a legendary staff that you’d normally have to go through a lot to get. It felt like when I used a trick I found on the internet to get the Master Sword early in The Legend of Zelda. The game treats you as if you “earned” it when, in fact, I technically cheated. The goddess Yggdrasil assumed Lorna went through a lot to reach her when that wasn’t the case; she just had a map.

It’s also hilarious that Lorna, upon lucking upon this staff, has bumped her powers up astronomically. She does a fire spell that creates a giant inferno and an ice spell that makes an iceberg appear.

A first episode’s job is to get you interested enough to watch the subsequent episodes. In that case, this show succeeded greatly with me. I’m very interested to see how this show progresses once Lorna gets into a town or something.
