English Dub Review: The Forsaken Saintness and Her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World “The Muchi Dango on Your Waist! Please Give Me Every Last One!”

Overview:

Rin helps the local church improve its food.

Our Take:

Rin has quite the monumental task ahead of her in trying to make church food good. I’m not trying to get into it about organized religion, but have you ever been to a dinner gathering at a church? I have, and I have to say… usually not good. I don’t know what it is, but for some reason, church meals are just kind of okay. If anyone can make them appealing, though, I imagine Rin can. First, she will need to find some ingredients that are worthy of a dish prepared by her.

Luckily, she and Vil decide to eat at a local restaurant and get blown away by the fish they serve. Rin asks the waitress if she could possibly purchase the fish from them because of their quality. This reminds me of a time I went to a local Mexican fast food place, and they have the best tortillas. I asked them if I could buy some from them or where they get them. Let me tell you, those tortillas must be a family secret because I got zero information from them. So I was surprised that when Rin asked about the fish, the owner brought out two full crates of them. Turns out Rin is more convincing than me; what a shocker, right?

I’m a sucker for a found family show, and this show has that in spades. The group split up into three groups: Rin with Vil, Ed with Aria, and Senon went out on his own. They all ended up finding each other because they all got takeout and were sort of “homesick” and wanted to eat back at the camper. Don’t get me wrong, this is played up for laughs, and it is funny, but it was also very endearing.

It’s really cute to me how this group of strangers has grown to care about each other so much that they prefer to be together as much as possible. Sure, some of it is romantic, like in the case of Ed and Aria, but as of now that’s all the romance we have. Otherwise, it’s just a group of people (and their lynx boss monster friend) who have grown to depend on each other and find comfort in each other’s company.

The concern about the saintess summoning was mentioned again, but for the most part that seems to be on the back burner. I have a feeling that will end up being the big climax to the end of the season.
