English Dub Review: The Elusive Samurai “The Night of the Assassination”

Overview

Through his dialogue with the warrior Masashige Kusunoki, known as a “god of war,” Tokiyuki is moved by Kusunoki’s unwavering convictions and develops an even deeper sense of confidence in the possibilities of “fleeing.” Just as he is smiling over this fortunate encounter, everything suddenly changes when he hears news of his sworn enemy Takauji’s movements.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Tokiyuki and the Elusive Warriors find themselves facing another difficult challenge that tests their courage, teamwork, and determination. As the stakes rise, Tokiyuki is forced to reflect on his own limitations and find renewed motivation to continue improving.

The rest of the proceedings highlights the considerable gap between the young warriors and their formidable opponents, delivering some memorable character moments along the way. However, the slower pacing and lack of tension make this arc feel less engaging than the first season, while some supporting characters could have benefited from more time to develop.

Overall, despite its pacing issues, the episode provides meaningful character development and reinforces the importance of learning from failure. Tokiyuki’s determination remains a compelling part of the story, and with two episodes left this season, hopefully the upcoming events will bring back the urgency and excitement that made the first season so engaging.
