Ankama Expands the Krosmoz Universe: ‘Welsh & Shedar’ Debuts Worldwide Free on YouTube This November
Ankama has announced that its new 12-episode animated series, Welsh & Shedar, is heading to audiences globally. Beginning November 5, fans around the world can stream the French-Japanese co-production for free on Ankama’s newly launched dedicated hub, the Krosmoz YouTube channel.
Following its initial Japanese broadcast on Tokyo MX, this worldwide digital release marks a major step forward in Ankama’s strategy to make its rich fantasy lore easily accessible to an international audience.
What Is Welsh & Shedar?
Set within Ankama’s iconic Krosmoz universe—the setting behind celebrated MMORPGs like DOFUS and WAKFU—Welsh & Shedar presents a brand-new story that fuses French narrative world-building with Japanese animation craftsmanship.
-
The Story: The series follows Welsh, a kind-hearted young cook living a quiet life in the peaceful village of Brassica. His mundane world is dramatically upended when two unexpected figures arrive: the dragon Asalar and the legendary hero Joris.
-
The Production: Created and written by Anthony Roux (known as ToT), CEO of Ankama and original creator of DOFUS and WAKFU, the project represents a collaborative dream realized through a partnership with Japanese animation house Studio Massket alongside Studio Dream Catcher.
When you’ve spent more than twenty years building a universe, it’s exciting to see what other artists find in it, shared Anthony Roux. Japanese animation has been part of his imagination for a long time, and working alongside Studio Massket provided the opportunity to create something new together within the Krosmoz for audiences worldwide to discover.
Global Release Details & Accessibility
To ensure the series reaches as wide an audience as possible, Ankama is providing comprehensive localization options right out of the gate.
The Launch of the “Krosmoz” Channel
The premiere of Welsh & Shedar coincides with the launch of Krosmoz, Ankama’s unified YouTube destination. Rather than locking content behind regional licensing walls or subscription services, Ankama plans to use the channel to house both new releases and back-catalog animated films and series, accompanied by lore-focused videos for old and new fans alike.
By offering full multi-language audio and subtitle support directly on YouTube, Ankama continues to break down barrier-to-entry walls for global anime fans looking to explore the vibrant world of the Krosmoz.
