English Dub Review: You and I Are Polar Opposites “Somewhere to Belong”
Overview:
Azuma realizes she has feelings for Taira but keeps her distance to avoid ruining their relationship.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Something tells me that Azuma and Taira’s ship isn’t going to sail during this series, at least. Don’t get me wrong, they both like each other and I think they’ll get together eventually. But there’s something about how much they’re both dragging their feet that makes me think it’s not going to happen. There’s only one episode left, and I think it’s going to wrap up the manga, and based on how this episode ends, I have a feeling we’re going to be focusing on Tani for the end.
For some reason, the ending to this episode gave off an ominous tone. At the end of the last episode, Tani and Suzuki came to an agreement that he would try to go to the school that’s out of town. She was prepared to break up with Tani, essentially, if he didn’t pursue something he wanted because of his relationship with her. But then, when Tani went to his cram school and Suzuki was talking about him, it showed him at his school with a weird look on his face. Something tells me that this usually cute show is going to have some pretty real consequences moving forward.
The last thing I want is for this show that has brought me a lot of joy to start getting sad. I know that it’s not realistic for all of these high school couples to make it but sometimes we need some non-realistic happiness in our lives. If it’s presented in the right way, it doesn’t even necessarily have to be unrealistic. The whole situation with Taira and Azuma is realistic in my eyes. They both like each other but might “miss” their chance at a relationship because of their insecurities.
The most enjoyable thing from this show is the character development. The Taira that we were introduced to in the beginning would never have invited Azuma to a party. Sure, the way he invited her was cryptic, and she couldn’t figure out if he meant to invite her in the first place, but still! It shows growth that he was willing to do it at all. Then, when the party was winding down, he pointed to the door, insinuating that they would walk home together. I hope I’m wrong and the next episode is as sweet as the rest of the show has been.
