English Dub Review: The Forsaken Saintness and Her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World “War on the Water! Seafood Barbeque!”

What begins as a survey mission turns into a rescue operation for a beached orca. That just so happens to be telepathic.

Our Take(Spoilers):

One of the things I had a question about was answered pretty quickly, or at least I think that it was. I was wondering if Ed and Aria were actually a couple or if Ed was just super into her or something. After all, it’s pretty rare for there to be established couples in this type of show. Usually we get a bunch of harem stuff. Well, to my surprise, it seems that Aria and Ed are, in fact, a couple. Aria was trying to tease Rin and ask her if she had a crush on anyone. Rin flipped the script on her and asked how she and Ed met, which led to Aria getting very embarrassed.

The group went to a beach on a survey mission, and it seemed like they chose it specifically so that Rin could cook up some seafood for them. For a second there, it looked like a beached orca was about to be on the menu. But when the whale was able to speak to Rin telepathically, it led to a different outcome. Unfortunately, before they could get the whale back in the ocean, a giant octopus showed up to try to spoil their plan.

I think I’m starting to notice a potential trend with this show. I have a feeling that anytime they run into a monster that seems too tough to fight, Rin will just mention that she could cook it into a delicious dish, and the group will focus up. That’s exactly what happened in this episode with the giant octopus. She promised that she could make something tasty out of its eyes, so Vil and the rest went to town on it.

Afterwards, they were able to make a moat of sorts and get the whale back into the ocean. When it got there, it did a jump that I swear was supposed to be a reference to the movie Free Willy. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen that movie, but it’s what led to me loving whales as a kid. I’m not gonna lie, when the orca showed up, I was a little excited. We don’t get to see them in anime very often, and even though it wasn’t the right climate for one, I was still stoked. This show might not be telling a huge story, but it’s fun, and that has to count for something.
