Our Take

We’ve now reached the emotional conclusion of this series, as Kihachi, Inako, and the others are forced to confront the consequences of their ambitions and the legacy they’ve been chasing throughout the series. The finale brings together the recurring themes of dreams, loss, and looking toward the future while giving the characters a chance to reflect on how far they’ve come.

The rest of the proceedings delivers some genuinely beautiful emotional moments, particularly between Kihachi and Inako, while Kyoto Animation once again provides stunning animation, backgrounds, and visual direction. However, the pacing feels rushed in places, and some of the character development and story threads don’t receive the resolution they deserved. The handling of Yosuke will also likely remain divisive, especially for viewers who felt his role overshadowed other characters and storylines.

Overall, Sparks of Tomorrow ends on a hopeful and visually gorgeous note, but it’s difficult not to feel that the series had more potential than it ultimately realized. Its themes and unique setting were consistently interesting, and the animation was easily one of its greatest strengths, but uneven storytelling and underdeveloped character relationships prevented the finale from reaching the impact it could have had. Still, it was an enjoyable journey with some memorable moments, and Kihachi and Inako’s final scenes provide a fittingly optimistic note to close things out.
