English Dub Review: Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You “Asking Behind the Supermarket Alone”
Overview
The supermarket employees discover a whole new fact about Sasaki. How will Tayama take it?
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, this one delivers another amusing misunderstanding, with much of the comedy coming from the wacky shenanigans unfolding inside Yamada/Tayama’s own mind. Her attempts to process what she thinks is happening lead to some genuinely funny reactions, and parts of the episode almost encourage subtitles just to catch all the little thoughts, reactions, and bits of dialogue happening beneath the surface. Thankfully, the misunderstanding doesn’t become unnecessarily drawn out.
The second half takes a quieter approach, focusing on Sasaki’s Mie dialect and the simple pleasure of enjoying a peaceful morning. These scenes capture the series’ laid-back atmosphere particularly well, although the show continues to romanticize smoking quite heavily. Even so, the calm conversations and subtle character interactions provide a nice contrast to the comedic overthinking from earlier.
Overall, this was another chill and entertaining episode that balances goofy misunderstandings with the series’ trademark quiet moments. Yamada’s reactions provide plenty of laughs, while the more contemplative scenes give the episode a cozy atmosphere. It’s not the most eventful installment, but its relaxed pacing and character-driven humor make it another easygoing watch.
