Our Take
This time around, Crunchyroll has officially given the three Lord of Mysteries special episodes an English dub, and they’re a surprisingly impressive return to the world after Season 1. Consisting of “City of Silver” and “The Marked Hunt” Parts 1 and 2, the specials expand on characters and storylines that previously received less attention while adding more depth to the world. Despite their shorter runtimes, they never feel like throwaway bonus content, with strong pacing, excellent animation, impressive sound design, and some fantastic visual effects. “City of Silver” especially establishes a distinct atmosphere while giving viewers more insight into one of the series’ most intriguing settings. That said, some of the lore may still be easier to follow for those familiar with the source material.
What surprised me most is how much these three episodes accomplish without feeling overly rushed. They strike a solid balance between character development, world-building, mystery, and action while giving several members of the Tarot Club more time to shine. The direction also deserves plenty of credit for creating tension through its atmosphere, lighting, sound, and animation. The production quality feels remarkably polished for what are essentially bonus episodes, although I still found myself wishing they had a little more time to breathe. Even so, presenting these stories as three specials was a smart choice, allowing them to explore additional material without disrupting the flow of Season 1.
Overall, these three specials are a fantastic appetizer for what’s ahead. They expand the world, give supporting characters more room to shine, and showcase just how strong this adaptation can be when its animation, atmosphere, and pacing come together. While the shorter runtime and occasional lack of exposition may leave some viewers wanting more, the quality is difficult to deny. More importantly, they feel like a genuine continuation rather than disposable bonus material. If you enjoyed Season 1, these specials are absolutely worth checking out.
