‘Hot Peasant Summer’ Animated Short Premieres on Dropout’s ‘Toonout’ Anthology

Streaming platform Dropout has officially released Hot Peasant Summer, a new dark comedy animated short produced in partnership with BAFTA-winning U.K. studio Blink Industries (Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, Alley Cats) and director Laura Jayne Hodkin.

The short marks the 11th episode of Toonout, Dropout’s ongoing anthology series dedicated to showcasing original animated work from indie creators every other Tuesday.

Story & Voice Cast: A 14th-Century Bachelorette Party

Hot Peasant Summer follows Brooke and Hayley, two modern-day best friends who get unexpectedly transported from a chaotic night out into the 14th century. Rather than panicking over time-travel physics, the pair quickly adapt to their medieval surroundings and decide to throw a full-blown bachelorette party for a local peasant bride named Agnes.

The short features high-profile voice performances from Kaya Scodelario (The Gentlemen, Skins) as Brooke and Hannah Pilkes (Hacks, The Woodsman) as Hayley.

Creative Team & Production Context

The four-minute short was directed and created by Leeds-based animator Laura Jayne Hodkin. A Royal College of Art MA graduate, Hodkin has previously developed original concepts and contributed to projects across Adult Swim, Bento Box Entertainment, and Netflix.
