English Dub Season Review: The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen Season Two

Pride continues trying to change things that happened in the game. After meeting the final two love interests from the game, she now has a plan. But it seems that a war might be on the horizon regardless.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I loved the first season of this show and had high expectations for the second. Somehow it managed to meet those and go below them all at the same time. Let me explain: you see, this season introduced the final two love interests and some plot threads that are very intriguing. The problem is that the most interesting of these plot threads might never get a resolution. As soon as a major war starts to kick off, the last episode ends. As of this writing, there’s no season three announcement, so that resolution might never be seen.

With how popular isekai and villainess shows have become, I hope that maybe we will get another season, but no other villainess show has gotten a third season. Heck, this show and My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! are the only ones to even get a second season. So I think this might be the last we see of this show, and if that’s the case, it’s hard not to be disappointed with how this season turned out.

One thing that wasn’t disappointing was the performance of Karlii Hoch. She voices Pride Royal Ivy, and this season was a fantastic performance. The best way to explain it is that there were multiple facets of Pride that we got to see this season, and you could feel it in her voice. Not only that, but there were a lot more different emotions that Pride went through this season, and there was a point near the end where it almost sounded like she was voicing a different character. I don’t mean that as a knock; it was honestly cool to see a few different sides of Pride.

There were essentially two different arcs we followed. There was the initial one where Pride was engaged to Prince Leon, the first prince of the Anemone Kingdom. But she knew that bad things would happen to him, so she decided to help him. That arc ended with them ending their engagement, but of course it seems that Leon is in love with Pride now.

Then there’s the case of Cedric, who is the second prince of the kingdom of Sashis. He has some issues but ultimately begs for help from Pride and her kingdom. His kingdom and another are joining forces to face off against another kingdom, and that is mostly where this season ends.

That’s what I mean; most of this season felt like a huge missed opportunity. I’m used to cliffhangers, but this felt like a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers. Not only that, but typically when you are given a cliffhanger, you can take solace in the fact that some sort of resolution will happen in the next season, but that’s just not the rule anime operates under, unfortunately.
