English Dub Review: The Forsaken Saintness and Her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World “Combine Your Friends and Ingredients for a Tasty Rice Dish!”

Overview:

Mouths watering for a taste of real food, Vil’s party gleefully welcomes Rin as their newest member. Meanwhile, concerns about the Saintess Summoning grow.

Our Take(Spoilers):

At this point, it’s no surprise that I love romance in my stories. Whether it’s an anime or a video game, it always enhances things for me personally. It seems that we might be getting a fair bit of that in this show, but it’s being delivered in a way that’s honestly kind of refreshing. Typically, with an isekai show, we get a harem where everyone loves the protagonist, but that might not be the case here.

Usually, in other shows, when Vil introduces Rin to the rest of his party, the other two male members would have fallen in love with her or something. But that wasn’t the case here; in fact, Ed and Aria seem to have something of a thing going on. It’s unclear at the moment whether they’re together or if Ed is super into her and she hasn’t reciprocated yet or something. But it’s funny that he actually gets jealous when Aria clings to Rin because she’s so grateful for the delicious food she makes.

We got a little bit more worldbuilding as well that was very interesting to me. The country that Rin has been summoned to is an island nation that has seperated themselves from the rest of the world. They are one of the few nations that don’t believe in human supremacy and don’t even participate in trade with nations that do believe that. I thought this was a really cool thing for a country to do, and it would be nice if countries in our world could act that way in some cases.

However, not all things are great, apparently, because when a peaceful country suddenly summons a saintess, that can’t be a good sign. Vil brings this to the attention of one of the adventurer guilds, and it will be investigated. I hope we learn something from that because once again we’re approaching something from a traditional isekai story, but in a unique way.

We’re only two episodes in, but I think we might have something special here. This show so far is a fun and unique spin on isekai adventures. I like that it’s more chill and not anything world-ending. As I mentioned earlier, that might change once that investigation is complete, but hopefully it will handle that well too.
