English Dub Review: The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten “A Stay-at-Home Date with the Angel”
Overview
The family goes shopping, and then Amane and Mahiru have a date at home when rain spoils their plans to go out.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, The Angel Next Door continues leaning heavily into Amane and Mahiru’s increasingly affectionate relationship. After spending more time together, the two become noticeably more comfortable in each other’s personal space, while Amane’s parents are surprisingly supportive of their growing closeness. A planned outing is derailed by the rain, but that ultimately leads to a cozy at-home date that gives the couple another opportunity to spend time together and become even more comfortable with one another.
The episode’s biggest strength is easily its wholesome atmosphere. There’s a lot of playful teasing, cuddling, and romantic tension between Amane and Mahiru, with Mahiru’s dress for their canceled outing providing one of the episode’s sweetest moments. Amane’s parents also remain a charming presence, particularly as they recognize how much Amane has changed and openly encourage his relationship with Mahiru. While the episode doesn’t move the overarching story forward by much, it does a good job showcasing how naturally their relationship has developed since becoming a couple.
Overall, this was another unapologetically fluffy episode that will either leave you grinning from ear to ear or desperately reaching for something to counteract the sugar rush. The romance continues to progress through small gestures and increased intimacy rather than major developments, which keeps the focus firmly on Amane and Mahiru simply enjoying each other’s company. It may be light on substance, but for anyone invested in their relationship, there’s plenty of sweetness here to enjoy.
