English Dub Review: Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World “From Now On”
Overview
After waking up without his memories yet again, Subaru makes up his mind to save Meili this time.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Re: Zero finally returns after a long break, with Subaru once again forced to deal with the consequences of his lost memories. Rather than allowing this setback to stop him, he immediately comes clean to the others and works to regain their trust. His conversation with Ram is especially emotional, as her frustration stems from what Subaru’s memory loss means for their shared goal. Despite not remembering everything, Subaru still possesses the determination and compassion that define him, making his return feel both heartfelt and satisfying.
The episode also puts considerable focus on Meili, exploring her troubled past and complicated connection to Elsa. Subaru’s response to her situation is particularly effective, as he chooses understanding over judgment and recognizes that much of her behavior stems from the life she was raised in. His efforts, along with Emilia’s support, lead to one of the episode’s most touching moments. The strong direction, animation, and especially the OSTs further elevate these character-driven scenes, restoring the atmosphere and emotional weight that made the previous cour so memorable.
Overall, this was a strong and emotional return that successfully gets the story moving again while giving its characters room to breathe. Subaru’s renewed resolve, his emotional exchange with Ram, and Meili’s storyline provide plenty of weight while setting the stage for what comes next. After such a long wait, it’s simply great to have Re: Zero back, and this episode leaves the series in an exciting position moving forward.
