English Dub Review: Daemons of the Shadow Realm “Sword and Bow”

Overview

Asa rescues the hostages, and Yuru faces off against Ivan.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the latest chapter continues the hostage situation while bringing Yuru’s conflict with Ivan to the forefront. Asa finally gets a brief chance to reconnect with her brother while helping rescue the hostages, and her ability to calm Yuru when Ivan provokes him highlights how important their bond has become. Yuru also makes amends with Danji, restoring their friendship and showing some welcome character growth. Asa’s hilarious “brother sensor” provides some lighter moments, while her relationship with Yuru adds genuine emotional weight.

The rest of the proceedings puts more focus on the confrontation with Ivan, who proves to be a frighteningly capable opponent despite being outnumbered and injured. The action is intense, while Yuru’s response to Ivan’s verbal head games was easily one of the episode’s strongest moments. Some of the fight’s decisions can feel frustratingly convenient, and Ivan’s seemingly endless abilities stretch credibility at times, but the tension remains strong.

Overall, this was another strong episode that balances action, comedy, character development, and mystery effectively. The mysteries surrounding Yuru’s parents and Ivan’s motives also keep the story moving forward, while Asa and Yuru’s relationship remains one of the emotional highlights. The action is well handled, the presentation remains solid, and the episode ends with one hell of a cliffhanger. Despite a few pacing and battle-related issues, the series has clearly picked up steam and leaves just enough unanswered to make the wait for what comes next especially painful.
