English Dub Review: The Beginning After the End “The King Enrolls”
Overview
Before enrolling in Xyrus Academy, Arthur faces the person responsible for his disastrous dungeon raid.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the show has now reached its season 2 finale with Arthur facing the mastermind behind the recent mana beast incidents before taking the next step toward a new chapter in his journey. The episode delivers an action-heavy conclusion while setting the stage for what lies ahead, wrapping up the season with a mix of spectacle and anticipation.
The final battle arrives rather abruptly, making the pacing feel somewhat uneven despite featuring some visually appealing moments. While the second season still had highlights, particularly the adventurer storyline and a few stronger character moments, it never felt as focused or engaging as the first. The narrative often jumped between events without enough buildup, making the overall flow feel inconsistent. On the production side, the animation remained hit-or-miss, but there was noticeable improvement in several hand-drawn sequences, even if the CGI and visual effects continued to hold the action back.
Overall, I still enjoyed this season despite its shortcomings. The added anime-original material helped make parts of Arthur’s adventurer journey feel more memorable, even if not every change worked. While the adaptation didn’t fully live up to the potential of its source material, it remained entertaining enough to keep me invested, and I’d still welcome another season to see where the story goes next.
