English Dub Review: Needy Girl Overdose “Canon a 3 Violinis con Basso c. / Gigue”

Overview

“I killed an angel.” True to Lollipop’s words, KAngel crumbles. Is this reality? Or is this a delusion? All that can be heard is a torrential rain of insults and abuse. “I’m sorry… Help me.” Those words are swallowed up by the myriad of mocking laughter.

Our Take

Picking up directly after the previous episode, we now follow Ame’s aftermath as she suffers a devastating psychological collapse after the fallout surrounding KAngel. Reality and delusion become nearly impossible to separate as she is overwhelmed by paranoia, public condemnation, and the pressure of maintaining the online persona that once gave her purpose. Through surreal symbolism and fragmented memories, the episode explores the lasting effects of childhood trauma, neglect, and the unhealthy cycle of using fabricated identities as a form of emotional escape.

This is easily the series’ darkest and most disturbing episode, relying on unsettling imagery, psychological horror, and heavy metaphor rather than straightforward storytelling. While some scenes feel intentionally excessive and are likely to divide viewers, many of them reinforce Ame’s deteriorating mental state and the cruelty of online culture, where admiration can quickly become hostility. The altered opening sequence, eerie presentation, and “lost episode” atmosphere all heighten the overwhelming sense of dread, making for an unforgettable if deeply uncomfortable watch.

Overall, this was a bold and emotionally exhausting episode that will likely be remembered as one of the anime’s most divisive. Its surreal approach and disturbing content won’t resonate with everyone, but those willing to engage with its psychological themes may find it to be one of the series’ most powerful chapters. Even with its shocking imagery, the episode succeeds in portraying the devastating consequences of trauma, isolation, and the impossible expectations placed on both internet personalities and the people behind them.
