English Dub Review: Daemons of the Shadow Realm “Daikyo and Shokyo”
Overview
Higashi Village is attacked by a man wielding a katana, Daemons.
Our Take
The 2nd cour kicks off with an intense return that wastes little time raising the stakes. While the episode continues exploring the aftermath of the conflict surrounding Higashi Village, it also shifts focus toward Yuru’s journey as new developments begin laying the foundation for the arc ahead. The introduction of fresh mysteries and an imposing new threat keeps the momentum high without revealing all of its cards too early.
Ivan immediately establishes himself as one of the series’ most memorable antagonists, bringing a calm yet terrifying presence whenever he’s on screen. His action sequences are exciting to watch, and the episode strikes a solid balance between brutal confrontations and quieter moments that expand the world. The new opening and ending themes are also excellent, with both the music and visuals giving the second cour a refreshing burst of energy.
Overall, this was a fantastic start to the second half of the season. It introduces compelling new story threads, expands the cast in meaningful ways, and leaves plenty to look forward to without relying on major reveals. While the tonal balance between darker moments and lighter scenes can still feel a little uneven at times, the strong pacing, engaging atmosphere, and intriguing setup make for an exciting return that builds anticipation for what’s to come.
