English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “The End of the Girlfriend”

Overview:

Chizuru’s rental GF secret may be out. How will people react, and how can Kazuya and Chizuru escape this?

Our Take(Spoilers):

I may have stopped reading the manga before this part, but I know it’s still running today. Which tells me there’s going to be some sort of asspull at the last moment to maintain the status quo. It seems like Kazuya is going to say that, while it might be true that he was renting her, his feelings are real. He does mention that this is going to be the worst confession in history.

I’m morbidly curious to see how this works out. Everything points to this being the end of the story or at least a major turning point. If Kazuya confesses his feelings in front of everyone, there’s no turning back. I wouldn’t say this makes me excited to see what happens, but it’s almost become like a train wreck. It’s a horrible thing, but I can’t help but continue to watch the carnage unfold.

What I’m about to say might sound contradictory to what I just said, but hear me out. One of the things I hate most about this show is the secondhand embarrassment I feel. For most of this episode, I couldn’t watch. All I could manage was to listen to what was happening. This isn’t the first time this has happened, either. I wish the episode title were real, and this was the end of the girlfriend. Also… Mami’s a bitch, but you’ve got to respect her as a hater.
