English Dub Review: Petals Of Reincarnation “Declaration Of War”
Overview:
Our View:
The last episode saw the introduction of Kitazuka, an old friend of Touya’s brother Seiya and an opponent of the Returners. More to the point, he seemed involved with some group targeting the Returners, even confronting a captured Returner as the story drew to an end. Now, it seems that his group seeks to expose the existence of the Returners to the outside world.
Meanwhile, a figure declaring themselves the “King” among the Returners is pushing for all talents to be celebrated, whether or not they are being used for good or evil. This figure appears to be an incarnation of the Chinese warlord Xiang Yu. According to Neumann, he wants to unleash past historical horrors back onto the world. It’s at this point when the episode’s title comes into play.
The Returners are preparing to fight, with Touya having to fight with figures other than Haitou. Of course, this comes with the temptation of wanting to steal his new allies’ powers for himself, especially when he fights alongside a Returner with the power of invisibility. Even Neumann starts to think that Touya is being suspicious. Things take another turn altogether when they find themselves losing the Wright Brothers in battle.
Things take a turn this episode as viewers start to see an even darker side of Touya, who was already compelled by feelings of revenge and wanting to prove himself. The final moments of the story push this even further as we learn something new about Touya.
Keeping its trend from the first few episodes, viewers once again get to see the series’ take on various historical figures, both for better or for worse, and explore all sorts of team-ups between them. Not to mention seeing who gets pitted against whom. Of course, having a little historical know-how, or at least access to the internet, can really help viewers enjoy all of these references.
