English Dub Review: Farming Life in Another World “New Residents”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

A change in plans is in order.  If the current village can’t support the new residents, the solution is simple: build more villages.

Our Take:

The first two episodes involve Hiraku and the others confronting something worse than a demon lord: adjusting the villages to accommodate the new arrivals.  The main village and the one currently under construction weren’t big enough for their large, four-legged inhabitants.  It also doesn’t help that the houses are built only for smaller villagers, but that’s okay.  They can just build more villages exclusively for the centaurs and minotaurs.  Unsurprisingly, things went off without a hitch, with the minotaurs helping with farm work, while the centaurs assist with the deliveries.  But as usual, building the additional villages is the least of Hiraku’s concerns, especially given the number of women compared to men.

After watching the first season of Farming Life, it became a tad easier for me to adjust to the laid-back, info-dumping structure of its episodes in season two.  Although the characters face some issues regarding maintaining peace in the village, they’re pretty mild in their approach to solving them, highlighting the show’s tranquility.  But again, it can come at the cost of being pretty boring and repetitive for those uninterested in life-simulation anime.  One example in this episode is the brief rivalry between Gruwald and the horse Hiraku is practicing on, and the other is, as I mentioned before, the overpopulation of women in the towns.  For the latter, it seems the anime is poking fun at the trend of harems, given the number of female residents Hiraku has.  I’m not complaining about that one bit, especially for Gruwald’s misunderstanding of the situation. However, for the sake of the population, something has to be done one way or another.
