English Dub Season Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season Two
Overview:
Following the First-Class Mage Exam, the trio—elven mage Frieren, warrior Stark, and first-class mage Fern—gains access to the dangerous Northern Plateau. As the party presses onward toward Aureole, formidable adversaries force Stark to confront his insecurities, solidifying his resolve and his role as the party’s frontliner. Meanwhile, Fern continues to cherish the gifts she has been blessed with throughout her life, each a reminder of those she holds dear.
Our Take:
As I like to do, I’m going to get some of the technical stuff out of the way first. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 is ten episodes long, and that’s eighteen episodes shorter than the first season. Honestly, that’s most of the negativity I have for this show. I wish it were longer, and after a nearly three-year wait, I expected a little more. A third season has been announced, but it won’t be out until October of next year. I hope that season three is at least twenty-four episodes.
Season two of Frieren didn’t quite reach the heights of the first season, but it was still of great quality. We got a date between Fern and Stark, and there were plenty of slice-of-life moments. Not only that, but there are still demons that need killing. We’re introduced to a demon by the name of Revolte, which fits because he is truly revolting. He’s voiced by Jonah Scott, and he truly makes you feel how menacing Revolte is.
If you loved the first season of Frieren, then you will be in for more of the same here. I loved getting to come back to this world and these characters. I’m glad that we’re going to get more. I just wish we didn’t have to wait so long, but it’s better than a three-year wait, I suppose.
