English Dub Review: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World With Garbage Balancing “Huntsman”
Overview:
Allen’s uncanny ability to hunt monsters earns him a promotion, and the baron’s family awaits a visit from the eldest son. Life is good. For now.
Our Take:
Allen gets a promotion… sort of. I say sort of because while he gets to be a huntsman now, it’s in addition to his other duties, and he only gets to do it once a week. He can still use his days off how he chooses, but for the most part, it seems like he’s gotten more work and less pay. He gets a bump in salary as a huntsman, but now that he’s getting a salary, he doesn’t get paid per monster slain. So now that he’s killing bigger monsters, I think he would have gotten paid more under the old rules.
The baron’s eldest son, Mihai, came to visit, and I was happy with how it went. Mihai and Allen sparred, and I was surprised that Allen lost because, usually, isekai protagonists always win. He hopes to get a rematch when Mihai comes back to visit.
Speaking of the baron, it seems that he’s not happy with the people above him. For some reason, it seems that having a talent is a bad thing for the noble class. We’ve yet to see why, but I’m definitely intrigued.
I was at my local bookstore, and I noticed a copy of the light novel that this show is adapted from. The art in it is amazing, and the characters look so great. That’s why it’s so surprising that the animation for this anime is average at best. I understand they can’t all look like Mushoku Tensei, but I’m surprised that an isekai show isn’t getting a little more love.
