English Dub Review: MF Ghost “The End of Summer”

Overview

A friend of Kanata’s from England arrives in Japan to compete in MFG, and Aiba crashes the beach party…

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story briefly shifts away from the track to stir up some messy character drama. The biggest spark comes from Shun Aiba’s impulsive reaction to learning more about Ren’s situation, leading to a confrontation with Kanata that feels more emotional than rational. While the moment highlights Aiba’s volatile personality, it also shows Kanata’s tendency to absorb conflict rather than escalate it, creating tension between two characters who were previously on good terms.

The latter half also introduces Emma, a bold and outspoken driver from Kanata’s past whose arrival instantly shakes up the dynamic. Confident to the point of bluntness, she challenges both Kanata’s choices and the budding connection between him and Ren, adding a competitive edge both on and off the track. Her racing credentials and distinctive Aston Martin presence hint that she may become more than just a passing rival, especially as her history with Kanata adds another layer of intrigue.

Overall, while the episode leans heavily into interpersonal drama instead of high-speed action, it mainly serves to rearrange the relationships and rivalries surrounding Kanata before the next race begins. With new tensions forming and Emma entering the mix, the stage feels set for the story to return to what it does best, by letting the drivers settle their differences on the asphalt.
