English Dub Review: An Adventurer’s Daily Grind at Age 29 “A Haircut and a Decision”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
After helping Hajime with his increasingly unruly hair, Veronica gets dragged away by a giant spider!

Our Take:
With Hajime’s traumatic issue out of the way, we now continue with the show’s light-hearted escapades to close out the season.  This time, we have a quest involving a beastly spider and dreadful haircuts, mainly Hajime’s.  I didn’t have a problem with Hajime’s hair as much as I did with his behavior up until this episode.  That’s mainly because, in my eyes, the person matters more than their hairstyle.  However, thanks to this episode, that belief is put into question when Rirui tries and fails to fix Hajime’s hair, leaving him bald for the remainder of the episode.  It doesn’t help that a Hawk-kite decides to kidnap Veronica for some reason, leading Hajime and Rirui on a rescue mission to get her back.
Amid the spider and haircut scenario, the episode puts extra focus on Veronica, who’s initially seen as a childhood friend who likes to pick on Hajime.  She not only possesses an obsession with her long hair, but she also finds herself torn between being an adventurer in Komai and a shop owner in Yanago.  While the latter offers a minuscule amount of growth in the succubus, she does learn a valuable lesson about appreciating herself regardless of her hair length, emphasized by her bond with Rirui.  Plus, seeing Hajime resemble Saitama from “One Punch Man” is hilarious enough to count as well-deserved karma for his treatment of Rirui.  Seriously, how is he not arrested for child abuse yet?
