Synergetic Announces Long-Awaited Theatrical Release of ‘MARS,’ an Animated Feature Film from Cult Comedy Troupe, The Whitest Kids U’Know!
The long-awaited animated feature film “Mars,” the final project from the legendary cult comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know (WKUK), is finally heading to theaters. Distributed by Synergetic, the film is set to receive a special theatrical rollout and an eight-city screening tour before its nationwide release.
For fans of the troupe—consisting of the late Trevor Moore, Zach Cregger, Sam Brown, Timmy Williams, and Darren Trumeter—this release marks the end of an era. The film serves as a poignant, albeit irreverent, farewell to Trevor Moore, who passed away in 2021 but completed his voice recordings and creative contributions before his death.
The Road to the Red Planet
Conceived over a decade ago and fueled by a massive crowdfunding campaign on Twitch that raised over $300,000, Mars has been a labor of love for the surviving members of the troupe. Directed by Sevan Najarian, the film stays true to the “dumb but smart” comedic sensibility that made WKUK a staple of the 2000s sketch comedy scene on IFC.
The project premiered to sold-out crowds at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, where it was praised for its biting social commentary and its fearless tackle of modern American conspiracy culture.
The Plot: A Billionaire’s Scam
The story follows Kyle (voiced by Moore), a man in his 30s who feels trapped by the predictability of his life. Facing a career he hates and a looming marriage, Kyle impulsively enters a contest hosted by eccentric billionaire Elron Branson to be one of the first “average people” to visit Mars.
To his surprise—and perhaps terror—he wins. Ditching his fiancée at the altar, Kyle blasts off toward the Red Planet, only to realize the “luxury” voyage is a complete facade. Stranded with a group of increasingly feral and unhinged amateur astronauts, Kyle must navigate a mission that was never meant to succeed.

The disc is expected to be a “love letter” to fans, featuring over nine hours of bonus content, including production diaries, deleted scenes, and commentary tracks. The film will also be available for digital streaming via the Darkroom platform.
A Bittersweet Farewell
As Sam Brown noted during the release announcement, the film is more than just a comedy; it is the final piece of the WKUK legacy. “As the last project we will ever create with our beloved friend and leader, Trevor Moore, this is more than a movie to us,” Brown shared. “That being said, it is still very dumb and very fun.”
With Zach Cregger having recently transitioned into a major Hollywood director (Barbarian, Weapons), Mars offers a look back at the chaotic, brilliant roots of the troupe that defined a generation of alternative comedy.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
