Hulu To Invite Us To A New Swap Meet As Part Of New Animated Comedy
Hulu officially announced the development of Swap Meet, a new half-hour adult animated comedy series starring and executive produced by breakout comedian Ralph Barbosa.
The project marks a significant expansion for Barbosa, whose laid-back, observational style has made him a rising star in the comedy world. It also continues Hulu’s aggressive push into original animation, following their recent “Hularious” stand-up branding—which included Barbosa’s 2025 special, Planet Bosa.
The Premise: Retail Paradise at the Eastgate Swap Meet
The series follows a fictionalized, “down-on-his-luck” version of Ralph (Barbosa), who finds himself working for his aunt’s eccentric, blue-collar Mexican-American family: the Cortez’s.
The setting for the show is the Eastgate Swap Meet, described as a “delightfully low-rent retail paradise” that serves as a hub for an infinite variety of goods, services, and local personalities. The show is expected to lean into Barbosa’s trademark observational humor, focusing on the hustle and culture of swap meet life and the dynamics of working with extended family in a blue-collar environment.
The Creative Team
Swap Meet brings together a veteran crew of animation and comedy talent:
-
Ralph Barbosa: Executive Producer and Lead Voice Actor.
-
Isaac Gonzalez: Writer and Executive Producer. Gonzalez is well-versed in both animation and Latino-centered comedy, with previous credits including Bordertown, The Gordita Chronicles, Mr. Iglesias, and Legends of Chamberlain Heights.
-
Production: The series is being developed by 20th Television Animation (the studio behind Family Guy and Solar Opposites) in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television.
Hulu’s Animation Boom
The announcement of Swap Meet came in the same week as another new adult animation reveal for Hulu: “Deano,” a comedy from Dean Thomas and David Ferrier. These moves signal that Hulu is positioning itself as a primary competitor to platforms like Netflix and Adult Swim by doubling down on diverse, creator-driven animated content.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
