English Dub Review: You Can’t Be in a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends! “Admiring Them? Feeling Lonely? School at Night? Fantasizing? Old Promises? Still Won’t Start a Rom-Com”

Overview:

Shio and Akari find out Eiyu reads rom-coms.

Our Take(Spoilers):

Not only did Shio and Akari find out that Eiyu likes rom-coms, but he also likes rom-coms that involve childhood friends. This leads Shio to double her efforts to try to create some rom-com moments by waiting for Eiyu to find her in the gym storage room. The only problem is he doesn’t come by when she expects him to, and she gets locked in. But lucky for her, Eiyu figured this was the case and went to let her out. One thing I don’t understand about this show and a lot of other rom-coms is why the characters won’t admit they like someone when they’re alone or asked about it. I might not have ever told someone who I liked, but if asked, I would.

Akari is still my favorite character thus far, in no small part because of Veronica Laux’s voice. I mentioned her a bit in my review of A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans, and I’m becoming more impressed with her talents as she gets more work. As for Akari, I’m impressed that she mentioned Eiyu’s promise to marry her right to his face. She pulls off the tsundere thing a little too well, though, so I don’t think he’s caught on to her true feelings.
