OUR TAKE

Double review this time and it looks we’re finally, after SEVEN episodes of this TWELVE episode part of the season, getting our main characters into the main event of the Culling Game. Though that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to talk about with the first of the episodes, which actually provide a pretty interesting and intense fight for Megumi and Panda as they take on Kirara and their unique cursed technique, which requires following a set path themed after a constellation to land a hit on them. Megumi is of course pretty analytical about these things, while Panda doesn’t get a lot of chances to show off, so this was quite the welcome encounter. Yuji and Hakari aren’t entirely left out of this, though they mainly come in at the end for Yuji to try and win over Hakari, as he and Kirara are naturally skeptical about hearing that Gojo has been sealed and so much has happened. This carries over into the next episode, but they manage to make a deal and get them on their side. But this small victory is cut short by the announcement that a new rule has been added to the Culling Game, something that can only be done by those who have two hundred points, which implies that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Upon learning this, it is also revealed that Yuji has been pre-selected as a player in the game, which the group quickly deduce is because of Sukuna making a deal with Kenjaku, who has apparently had all of this in the works for a while. In fact, he’s not even the only pre-registered player, as several Jujutsu Sorcerers from hundreds of years ago are also participating, either with their own bodies or reincarnating into others. And last but not least, Yuji and Megumi finally enter the game, with the initial goal of finding a man named Hiromi Higaruma, the only other player who has gained enough points to add a rule, but are instantly separated and easily take down a couple of jobbers who use their hair as propellers. For all the seriousness that this show usually puts into its fights, I was honestly surprised to see characters who were committed to a comedic bit. Anyway, it’s not long before the two run into more people, one of which is an old classmate of Yuji’s, though they’re clearly up to no good as well. And we’ll have to wait until next week to see how that goes.
