English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “My Big Brother’s Coming!”
Overview:
Mizuki’s brother, Shizuki, unexpectedly comes to Japan. Can she keep her secret while he’s here?
Our Take(Spoilers):
So… Mizuki’s brother, Shizuki, is coming to visit, and she wants to hide what’s going on from him, I understand. What I don’t understand is if he knows the lengths she’s going to, to stay at an all-boys school. I also don’t understand if Shizuki was friends with Umeda before. I would imagine so because they seem friendly. It’s also hard to believe that during this whole trip, Shizuki didn’t let it slip to Sano that Mizuki is his sister, not brother. And did Umeda mention anything to Shizuki? I was hoping that this episode would be fun and some revelations would happen, but it seems like Shizuki is going to come and go with no big events happening.
Sano did manage to compete in a track meet again, and while he didn’t place or anything special, he did manage to clear the pole. Since he was having issues with that previously, I would say that’s a good sign he’s getting back to top form.
I wish a show like this would focus more on the romance than on the awkwardness of Mizuki hiding her gender. The gender thing can be a focus, sure, but I don’t know, it’s hard to tell who this show is for at this point. I suppose that’s the struggle with adapting an older manga.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
