Prime Video Orders ‘Lore Olympus’ Animated Series from The Jim Henson Company and Webtoon Studios
The long-awaited descent into the Underworld is finally happening. Prime Video has officially given a series order to the animated adaptation of ‘Lore Olympus,’ the global phenomenon created by Rachel Smythe.
The project, which has been in development for several years, is a massive joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios, The Jim Henson Company, and Webtoon Studios. The news marks a major milestone for the Webtoon platform, as Lore Olympus remains its most decorated and popular title, boasting over 1.2 billion views and multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards.
A Modern Myth Reimagined
For the uninitiated, Lore Olympus is a stylish, modern retelling of the classic Greek myth “The Abduction of Persephone.” It reimagines the gods of Olympus not as distant marble statues, but as modern socialites navigating a world of high-stakes gossip, complex relationships, and corporate intrigue.
The story centers on Persephone, the young Goddess of Spring, as she arrives in the glittering, neon-soaked world of Olympus. There, she encounters Hades, the misunderstood and lonely King of the Underworld. The series is celebrated for its breathtaking watercolor aesthetic and its sensitive handling of themes like trauma, consent, and emotional growth.
The Creative Powerhouse
The collaboration between Amazon and The Jim Henson Company is particularly noteworthy. While many associate the Henson name with puppetry, the studio has a long history of pushing boundaries in visual storytelling (as seen in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance).

Why Prime Video?
The move to Prime Video makes perfect sense for the streaming giant, which has quickly become the premier destination for high-quality adult and young-adult animation. Lore Olympus will join a heavy-hitting roster that includes Invincible, Hazbin Hotel, The Legend of Vox Machina, and the recently announced Odd Jobs.
“Rachel Smythe has created a world that is visually spectacular and emotionally profound,” said Melissa Wolfe, head of animation at Amazon MGM Studios. “Bringing the vibrant, neon-lit halls of Olympus and the moody depths of the Underworld to life is exactly the kind of ambitious storytelling we want to champion at Prime Video.”
What Fans Can Expect
One of the biggest questions surrounding the adaptation is how the show will translate Smythe’s unique art style. Known for its use of monochromatic color schemes for specific characters (pink for Persephone, blue for Hades), the series’ visual language is a core part of its identity.
While a release window has not yet been set, the series order indicates that production is ramping up. For the “Lore” faithful who have been waiting since the first development announcement in 2019, the news that the project has finally landed at Amazon is the ultimate “Mount Olympus” high.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
