English Dub Review: Cat’s Eye “Get the Goddess of Mars”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
When Seguchi announces the display of “The Goddess of Mars”, Cat’s Eye plots to steal the painting.

Our Take:
Now that we’re aware of a larger threat in the form of a mysterious organization, Cat’s Eye’s goal of retrieving their father’s paintings has gotten a bit more exciting for us.  The reason is that this villainous group, known as the Cranaff Syndicate, is responsible for stealing the sisters’ father’s paintings and displaying them as their own.  Additionally, it’s revealed that Seguchi is working for the Syndicate and is tasked with capturing Cat’s Eye by showing “The Goddess of Mars” as bait.  Unsurprisingly, these guys certainly mean business in terms of them setting up a car bombing that sent Toshio to the hospital, adding to the stakes of this seemingly repetitive structure.
“The Goddess of Mars” continues to display the series’s structure of Cat’s Eye retrieving one of their father’s paintings.  However, the addition of the Cranaff Syndicate and the threat they pose injects just enough excitement to advance the reboot’s initially aimless plot.  The car chase sequence in which Cat’s Eye escapes from Seguchi and the Syndicate has to be my highlight of the episode, thanks to its decent animation and entertaining thrills, which lead to them exposing Seguchi’s criminal ways.  But, of course, the sisters still have a long way to go in defeating the Syndicate for good, especially when its leader still has some more tricks up his sleeve.
