English Dub Review: Tougen Anki “Flawless Fortune

The tarot cards and their position can tip the balance of the fight one way or the other.

Our Take(Spoilers):

Naito and Tsukuyomi face off, and the latter leans into his tarot cards. This ended up being a classic shonen battle where we get reveals showing off the characters’ powers being used in ways that are unique. Naito made his blood rain so fine that it got into Tsukuyomi’s system and messed him up. I feel very torn by how this fight played out because on one hand, I love the “comfort food” feeling of shonen, where you know what you’re gonna get. But also, I like it when shows take risks and do something different, and this was as safe as you could get.

The episode made up for that, I think, in how the confrontation between Momoiwa and Kougasaki played out. By now, you know that Momoiwa can not only see what people infected by his bacteria see, but he can also make them see what he sees. Kougasaki chases Momiwa to a rooftop, where he jumps to a neighboring roof. It’s an easy jump that Kougasaki could make in his sleep, but when Momoiwa makes him see himself from his perspective, it messes him up, and he falls. It wasn’t enough to kill Kougasaki, but it gave Momoiwa enough time to set up a trap that we have to wait till next week to see.
