English Dub Review: Sanda “Flashback Attack”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Sanda takes unorthodox measures to fight Namatame, while Fuyumura races to find Ono after abandoning her.

OUR TAKE

On the eleventh week of Sanda, my true love gave to me: Eleven burning buildings, ten bullets fired, nine old lady massages, eight heart attackings, seven kids a-killing, six organ transplants, five wet dreams, four old man hugs, three detected lies, more supporting cast, and a buff Santa in his undies! We finish up the fight against Namatame this week, though we’re not quite done at the Peak of Youth Festival, which I guess is having its wrap up in the season finale next week. For now though, it’s another chance for Sanda to affirm his youth while taking the lessons of being in an adult body. Over the course of the show, he’s come to understand the purpose of the Santa identity is to help kids get their wishes and protect them from bad adults, but even with the Black Santa mode, he knows he can’t fight a kid as Santa. Unfortunately, he also instantly turns into Santa if he gets red on his body, which is hard to avoid when Namatame is constantly shooting him and causing blood to spurt onto his skin. So, while he’s trying to talk her down and convince her that she doesn’t hate adults, she just is sad and mad about her mother being obsessed with youth to an insane degree, he’s also forcing himself to turn back into Sanda with the Bratty Beans that help him change back, which is itself a massive drain on his stamina.

After Namatame eventually runs out of bullets, she attempts to flee and fight again another day, Sanda’s words stick with her and, through an honestly odd turn of events, she imagines her mother telling her as a child that Sanda is actually her friend now and…I guess that’s sufficient for someone as mentally unstable as her. So, it seems that Sanda has once again turned an enemy into an ally, and a useful one at that considering her weapons knowledge. However, once Fuyumura realizes she left Ono all alone, we see the inverse of that, as Ono’s love for her and fear of growing up continue to poison her mind, along with her drastic growing pains. Also apparently she thinks she’s going to die soon, which…I would get a second opinion on if I were her. So, it seems like the major battles of the season are done with, with the season finale next week being mainly a cool down and set up for what comes next in a potential second season, but we’ll know for sure when Sanda concludes for the year.
