English Dub Review: Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! “The Blood-Mad Duke’s Intentions”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Aristide is tasked with exterminating some maddened beasts, and Melphie asks him to pick up some sweet but magically laden fruits while he’s out.

OUR TAKE

Just like last week’s episode, this week is more of Melphie getting used to residing in Galbraith, though we also have more time with Aristide and learn more of his duties, position, and associates to even things out. For one, we once again meet Chaos, one of Aristide’s aides who we saw a little bit of in the early episodes, but I guess wasn’t with them after Aristide went to get Melphie and bring her to Galbraith. Also, who the hell names their kid Chaos? That’s just asking for a super villain right there. Well, while he does have that air and aesthetic around him, it turns out he’s more just a man nanny for Aristide, keeping him in line when he strays too far, which honestly he would kinda need given his propensity for going off on his own into dangerous situations. But in this case he is, ironically, alerting him to another dangerous battle, as the flying beasts that were chasing them seem to be near feral after going mad from some sort of disease. Basically whatever the equivalent of Mad Cow Disease is for giant flying dragons, and so he’s gotta go slaughter them all before they cause more damage.

As for Melphie she asks him to pick up a couple Screamwood fruits, which the Blanche Corps were talking about last time, and Aristide happily agrees, wanting to encourage everyone to get more used to the cooking of monsters. However, the mission takes several days, making Melphie sick with worry, which basically goes to show just how much she has come to emotionally rely on her fiance. Ah, love. It’s as sweet and freeing as it is a weight on your heart now that it is tied to the well being of another. Thankfully this is not meant to be a very dark show, so Aristide is able to make it back with barely any scratches, and after a lovey dovey nap in Melphie’s arms, Melphie starts to work on the fruit he got. And here we learn that magical fruits and vegetables work a bit differently than monsters, as they retain magic longer due to not dying when cut like animals. And while removing the magic toxins is trickier than the other time she’s done this, it is successful and the fruit becomes edible. Hooray! Well, two episodes left, hopefully we’re headed towards a satisfying ending.
