Review: Bob’s Burgers “The Secret Guardin’”

Don’t tell mom the babysitter broke a bab

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

During a routine babysitting of her siblings, Tina accidentally breaks one of Linda’s porcelain baby figurines and orders a replacement to put in its spot before she notices. However, Louise comes back from the dentist loopy on drugs that may make her blab, so Tina must act fast to make the swap.

OUR TAKE

It’s another week at the Belcher home and this time we have a sort of reverse heist kind of episode, which brings up Linda’s porcelain baby figurines for the first time…I don’t know, probably a decade? I gotta wonder if Bob’s Burgers is old enough to be one of those shows where people who were kids watching it are now working for the show and bringing up things they remember? Anyway, this is also our second Tina focused episode in a row, though ironically it’s an episode about trying to maintain a lie, compared to last week’s episode which was her trying to uncover the truth. Although both ended with said truth not becoming fully known to the respective authorities, so I guess they’re both pretty similar. But if anything, this shows that Louise is not the only one of the Belcher children who is able to come up with a scheme and enact it under the cloud of deception. I mean, Louise is definitely better at lying and moving sneakily, as Tina is VERY bad at hiding her emotions and if her parents were even the slightest bit more perceptive, they would have figured it out, but then we wouldn’t get this episode so…

Anyway, it’s another solid entry for the season, though the B plot isn’t bad either, with Teddy continuing his efforts to romance Kathleen, his semi recurring love interest who appears maybe once every other season if that, by picking up her very Catholic mother Mary from the airport…only to pick up a totally different catholic mother Mary who has an Irish daughter named Mary. Apparently this Mary is a bodybuilder (with a mohawk) of some kind and, upon learning that Teddy has accidentally absconded with her mother, threatens to beat him up. Unfortunately we do not meet bodybuilder Kathleen, and we barely get to see regular Kathleen, but it’s nice to see that Teddy’s kind and helpful nature is continuing to win him points with a nice lady who cares about him, even if she apparently can’t be around more than once in a blue moon. I was actually kind of expecting this to be a sign Teddy didn’t know his Kathleen at all, which would make sense considering her sporadic appearances, but thankfully that’s not the case. So, we’ve got another regular episode coming next week, but then it’s another week break, hopefully leading us into another great Bob’s Burgers thanksgiving episode. But again, another episode next week!
