From Quahog to Townsville: Family Guy Skewers Holiday Tropes in New Hallmark-Parody Special
In a season typically dominated by saccharine, small-town romance, Family Guy is preparing to deliver its sharpest holiday satire yet. The long-running animated comedy is set to release a new Christmas special exclusively on Hulu this November, taking direct aim at the overly familiar, wholesome genre popularized by Hallmark and Lifetime.
The feature-length special, aptly titled “Disney’s Hulu’s Family Guy’s Hallmark Channel’s Lifetime’s Familiar Holiday Movie,” promises a hilarious role-reversal and complete removal from the show’s traditional setting.
The Plot: Big-City Lois Meets Small-Town Peter
The new special upends the typical Griffin family dynamic and plot structure by casting Lois in the classic “busy big-city executive” role. Lois works for the ruthless “Big Pie” corporation and travels to the quaint, snowy hamlet of Townsville on a mission to steal a beloved, award-winning family secret pie recipe.
The recipe belongs to a reimagined Peter Griffin, who is now a charming, small-town mechanic and pie connoisseur. As expected from the genre, the two find themselves romantically entangled, with Peter teaching Lois that “love and carbs matter more than corporate ambition.”
Showrunners Alec Sulkin and Rich Appel noted that the satirical approach was a deliberate choice. “It gets harder and harder every year to try to think of an original… Christmas episode,” Sulkin told Collider, “So this year, we just decided to give up trying to be original and just used every single thing that’s been used before.”
A New World for the Griffins
The parody extends beyond the script. The animation team had to go “all hands on deck,” according to the showrunners, as the story leaves Quahog entirely. Every background and character design is new to fully immerse the audience in the wintery, picture-perfect world of Townsville—a stark contrast to the usual drudgery of Rhode Island.
Adding to the special’s authenticity is a musical touch from the world of country music. Star Lainey Wilson lends her voice to the opening theme, delivering a soaring, “busy city girl” anthem straight out of a genuine holiday movie trailer.
Legacy of Twisted Holiday Cheer
While this new movie-length special is a unique event, Family Guy has a long history of irreverent holiday programming that often stands among its best episodes. Fan-favorites have long included specials that push the boundaries of Christmas tradition:
-
“Road to the North Pole” (Season 9, Episode 7): A double-length musical odyssey where Brian and Stewie journey to Santa’s Grotto and discover the nightmarish reality of Santa’s global operation.
-
“A Very Special Family Guy Freakin’ Christmas” (Season 3, Episode 16): The first Christmas episode, which infamously features Lois’s total mental breakdown as she tries to achieve a perfect holiday.
-
“Christmas Guy” (Season 12, Episode 8): A pivotal episode known for its emotional conclusion, which saw the return of Brian Griffin.
The new special, “Disney’s Hulu’s Family Guy’s Hallmark Channel’s Lifetime’s Familiar Holiday Movie,” is set to premiere on Friday, November 28, 2025, on Hulu, ensuring that even the most formulaic corners of the holiday season are not safe from the show’s signature skewering.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
