English Dub Review: Wandance “Dance Club Gender Ratio”
Overview:
Wandance recently debuted its first episode on Hulu in English on November 12, 2025. The second episode, “Dance Club Gender Ratio,” has since come out, showing Kabo dealing with a new challenge after deciding to join the dance club.
Our Take:
Things start out with Kabo discussing how dance has become compulsory in schools, becoming more highlighted on television and online media. Noting how there are now thousands of dance clubs across schools, there’s a bit of a gender imbalance among the dancers, with far more girls than boys. While he understands this at first, after joining the school’s dance club, he soon learns that he’s the only guy in the club. Or so it would seem.
When Kabo goes down to watch a performance with Wanda, viewers are introduced to On Miyao, a third-year student and the president of the school’s dance club, who is voiced by Abby Espiritu in the English dub.
Things start out with a hip-hop class, where the older dancers move in sync with each other. The younger students are offered a chance to dance along, but most are intimidated, with Wanda being the only taker. This eventually inspires the others to join in, including a reluctant Kabo.
Speaking with Kabo, Miyao mentions that there actually is one other guy in the group, a second-year. However, he rarely shows up anyway. Fans can already guess that this is going to become an important plot point later.
Once the dancing starts, Kabo starts to imagine himself as if he’s underwater, symbolizing his fear that he’s not going to fit in. The president gives individual advice to each of the new dancers, though seems to skip Wanda. When it comes to his turn, Kabo pretty much freezes on the spot, with Miyao reassuring him he just needs to relax. After class, with Kabo wondering just why Wanda was skipped over, he and Wanda learn about upcoming dance contests, which even first-year students could participate in. Naturally, this is something that Wanda’s excited about.
While things didn’t quite go swimmingly during the first class for Kabo, he confides to himself that he’s found a way to express himself without speaking, something that means a lot to someone dealing with a stutter. He muses about wanting to open up to Wanda before getting into his dance warm-ups.
At school the following day, Kabo finally asks Wanda is she wants to go out…backtracking that he means to practice dancing. This isn’t the only awkward moment Kabo faces, with his friend Hotoharu in some kind of funk as he asks him if he quit the basketball club, though he tells him he’s still welcome to play at breaks. Finally, his stutter comes out during the next dance club meeting. However, it’s Wanda’s reaction to Kabo comparing his stutter to DJ scratching that ends up making a scene. In fact, Kabo’s dancing soon impresses Miyao, who notes he has some sort of awareness when it comes to dancing. Either way, Kabo feels like he understands why the other male club member rarely shows up.
Soon, the club is told about the upcoming June contest, with the dancers having to get ready for tryouts. Once again, Wanda seems to be the only one up for it, but soon the whole club shows interest. While speaking with Wanda, Kabo’s feelings of isolation return, once again imagining what it’s like to be underwater. However, Wanda has the perfect solution: imagine there’s no audience and that he’s only dancing in front of her.
The show’s use of CGI for when the characters start dancing has proven to be an issue for some viewers. While it can symbolize the characters going all out when they dance, it can come off as uncanny for some viewers. Of course, to quote Flashdance, for some people, when they start dancing, “It’s like you’re somebody else for a while.” The underwater imagine spots, however, also show that the series can get imaginative when it wants to be.
Overall, this episode of Wandance helps to highlight Kabo’s growing feelings of isolation, showing him gradually starting the branch out. As it’s still early, fans will also want to see how certain things play out, from Kabo and Wanda’s growing relationship to just who the other male member of the dance club could be. That said, the second Kabo fumbles his confession to Wanda, fans will hope to see him sort his feelings out sooner rather than later.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
